It's winter and time to get knitting!

I have been trying to find the provenance of the photo at the left. It is a great illustrative photo as to the type of scarf that this pattern creates. the stitches are tiny and the scarf, much wider than what we are used to.

  1. This is a very tempting project. It's pretty and it looks fairly easy. However that fine scale might take me forever to finish.

    1. That's what I thought! I'm such a slow knitter but I know people who could have this finished in a few days. I thought about maybe only making it 1/2 as thick. Thanks for commenting, Nina!

  2. Some people asked for clarification on the abbreviations:

K2tog : Knit 2 stitches together as if they were one.
sl 1: Slip the stitch onto your other needle without knitting.
yo: Bring the yarn over to the front (as if you're about to purl.)
psso: Pass the former stitch the previous one. Similarly to when finishing a piece.

Hope I get to see someone make this! :)

  3. Please help, I want to make this Civil War Era Scarf but I don't understand the pattern.
    Border - Row 1: *K2tog 4 times, yo, K8, K2tog 4 times, P1*. Repeat ( this is decease row )
When I finished row 1 - row 4, I can not repeat this row 1 again because there are no enough stitches.
Scarf main - Row 1: * yo, sl1, K1, psso, K1, P1 *. Repeat row 1 every row? How come the pattern it do not look like in the picture?
    Thanks.

  4. I think I might not have been clear but you (K2Together) 4 times in a row then (Yarn over + knit1) 8 times in a row to make up the number of stitches lost in the decreasing. Sorry about the confusion!

  5. Thank you. I did what you say.
Actually when I first saw the link below I click and it directed me to your website. It shows the pattern BUT no picture.
I follow the pattern but the design came out to be different from the one I am referring to below.
I am still trying to get the pattern for the scarf below. Any help will be much appreciated.

  6. Hi, the scarf and the pattern are different. The style of the scarf as in how wide the scarf is and the size of the needles and yarn is of a similar style. I'm sorry I should have made that clearer above.
